Cocoa Half – San Antonio, TX – January
This chocolate-themed event certainly brings it – chocolate dipped fruit, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate along the course, and other San Antonio flavors. Run past top attractions, including the Main Plaza (the heart of the city), Mission Concepcion (the oldest unrestored church in America), and the San Antonio River Walk (a walkway on the banks of the San Antonio River lined with shops, dining options and entertainment). With plenty of nearby hotels, getting to and from the race is pretty sweet – kind of like the delicious post-race celebration.
Hershey Half Marathon – Hershey, PA – October
Trick or Treat, here’s something sweet! Put on by the town of Hershey, as in the town famous for all things chocolate, this is a perfect family racecation destination. Runners race through the amusement park, are treated to a mid-race chocolate aid station, and snag two free tickets to Hersheypark in the Dark – Hersheypark’s Halloween celebration with thrilling attractions, and entertainment. Boo-yah!

Urban Bourbon Half Marathon – Louisville KY – October
Whether you like it on the rocks, neat, or with a twist, this is the event to get your bourbon on. Once you cross the finish line to receive your bourbon bottle replica medal, you’ll get your hands on Bourbon tastings, pizza, and donuts (bring cash). Of course running through Cherokee Park during fall foliage on the way to the finish line party isn’t so bad either. And by “isn’t so bad”, we mean “absolutely beautiful”.
The Bourbon Chase – Lexington KY – October
The only thing better than Bourbon, is Bourbon with friends. Grab 11 of your closest friends, or anyone willing to run 200-miles, decorate a van, and head to horse country to run along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. After conquering the rolling hills of the bluegrass region, you’ll finish it up with a smooth bourbon-filled celebration. It’ll be barrels of fun!

Santa Rosa Marathon – Santa Rosa CA – August
Talk about more wine and less whine with this event. After running down Prince Memorial Greenway (the prized pathway along the Santa Rosa Creek) and through the barrel room (because that sounds kind of awesome!), runners can expect a free drink at the beer and wine festival, watermelon, pancakes (jackpot!), a farmers market (samples are free, but bring cash for purchases), a jacket instead of a shirt, and a bottle of wine (yes, you read that correctly). Don’t keep this racecation bottled up.
Destination Races – All Over – May through October
The Wine Country Half Marathon series sure knows what it’s doing when it comes to racecations. Running through some of the most beautiful wine countries across the US and Canada at sunrise isn’t enough for this series. In addition to mid-course wine stations and wine-inspired medals – think wine bottle coasters – each race is topped off with a mini-wine and music festival. And because many of the events end at a winery – you can keep your post-post-race event going even longer. We’ll raise a glass to that.
Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon – Santa Barbara CA – May
Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon – Leesburg VA – June
Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon – Napa CA – July
Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon – Willamette Valley OR, August
Healdsburg Wine Country Half Marathon – Healdsburg CA – October
