Why We Love It

Casper, an old oil boomtown, is known for its cowboy culture, western heritage, Native American history, and for having the highest population of pronghorn antelope. Casper Mountain, North Platte River, Alcova Lake, and other surrounding landmarks offer plenty of outdoor adventure for nature and wildlife lovers.

Free (or Almost Free) Stuff To Do

Devils Tower National Monument

A flat-topped volcanic formation considered sacred to 20+ local tribes. Out of respect for those tribes and culturally significant times for ceremonies, June is a voluntary month to refrain from climbing or hiking the inside monuments trails. While we ask that you observe this request, it still offers beautiful views for photos.

Casper Mountain

The north portion of the Laramie Mountain range home to trails and falls, including the Lee McCune Braille Trail for the visually impaired. Activities: archery, bike, camp, climb, hike, horseback, off-road, walk/run.

Ayres Natural Bridge Park

A 150-acre park home to a unique geologicial formation with an old urban legend of a resident evil spirit. Activities: camp, fish.

Alcova Lake

A recreational marina and lakeside destination with picnic tables, a restaurant and rentals. Activities: boat, camp, canoe/kayak, fish, hike, jet ski.
