Special bibs for legacy runners, and Pacific Ocean views! A portion of the race fees go to help preserve the island. Note: A challenging course - expect to be about an hour slower than a flat marathon.
Why We Love It
Avalon, the only incorporated city on the island of Catalina Island, is home to beaches, restaurants, hotels and outdoor recreational fun. The island, most recognized for its unique and rocky terrain, was transformed into a tourist destination by William Wrigley Jr. (yes, the gum aficionado). Mostly controlled by the Catalina Island Conservatory to balance conservation, education and recreation, the island is known for its outdoor adventure, roaming buffalo, beautiful waterfront, amazing zip-line tours, and its famous glass-bottom submarine tours. Note: You'll have to take a ferry or helicopter to get here!
Free (or Almost Free) Stuff To Do
A small remote village on the opposite side of the island from Avalon that focuses heavily on recreational water fun. Activities: bike, boat, camp, canoe/kayak, golf, hike, scuba, snorkel.
A 37-mile (60 km) popular and steep trail that crosses the entire island. You may want to consider trekking poles and be sure to give bison some space if you cross their path!
A pedestrian waterfront street in Avalon overlooking the harbor with boutique shops and quaint restaurants.
