Why We Love It
New York, known as the Big Apple and the city that never sleeps, is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world with over 800 different languages spoken. It played a key component during the Revolutionary War, survived two 9/11 terrorist attacks, and is a current financial industry hub. Its famous icons include Central Park, Grand Central Station, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building, and yellow taxi cabs. It is also known for its Broadway shows, large pizza slices, numerous museums and celebrated skyline.
Free (or Almost Free) Stuff To Do
Wall Street | A hub for American finance, this street is home to icons such as sky scrapers, stock exchanges, investment banks, Trinity Church, and the nearby Charging Bull. |
Times Square | Often referred to as "the crosswords of the world" it is home to Broadway shows, restaurants, shops, entertainment, and even a clock showing the Nation's Debt. |
The High Line | An old abandoned freight rail transformed into an elvated walking park with landscaped gardens, views of the city, and several art installations along the way. Tip: stop by the Chelsea Market for a bite to eat afterwards. |
Rockefeller Center | Known as the local for several TV shows including the Today Show, it is a midtown hub for shopping, restaurants, and skytop views of the city. |
Grand Central Terminal | Grand Central Terminal (not Station!) is more than just a hub for local and metro-area transportation, take the tour to learn its about its unique history, architecture and hidden secrets. |
Central Park | An urban park with green lawns, paved paths, trails, ponds, statues, recreational fields, amusement park, zoo and event bandstand. There are always events taking place from bike tours to yoga by the fountain. Activities: bike, entertainment, picnic, walk/run. |
Brooklyn Bridge | A cable and suspension bridge that connects Brooklyn to Manhattan, popular among bikers, runners, and walkers. Once in Brooklyn, spend time at the park and piers for extra entertainment and activity. |
5th Avenue | A famous avenue for its high concentration of high-end and luxury shops and retailers. |
