Why We Love It

Lake Placid, home to the abolitionist John Brown, sits within the Adirondack Mountain Range and is known for its small town mountain culture and outdoor adventure. The Hudson River Gorge, Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain offer plenty action on land and in water, while Main Street is more relaxed with artisan shops, local cuisine and farmers' markets.

Free (or Almost Free) Stuff To Do

High Falls Gorge

A 30-minute walking trail with lush greenery and vegetation plus four waterfalls.

Mount Jo Trailhead

A relatively easy hiking trail with beautiful views of the Adirondack mountains.

Natural Stone Bridge and Caves Park

A park with geology activities for children and hiking trails alongside grottos, caves and waterfalls. Activities: disc golf, hike, rock wall.

Whiteface Mountain

One of the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, it has panoramic mountain views, and is home to an Olympic Sports Center. Activities: bike, hike, off-road.
