Why We Love It

Washington DC, the capital of the United States, is named after First President George Washington and is at the center of American politics, history, and democracy. It is home to the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court and many International Embassies, making it a focal point of the U.S. government. As a cultural and educational hub, many of the city's attractions are free, including museums, monuments, and numerous parks and green spaces for recreational outdoor activity.

Free (or Almost Free) Stuff To Do

The White House

This iconic location, once set on fire by the British during the War of 1812, is the President's residency and primary work place. Tours can be arranged, but must be made at least one month in advance and reserved through a member of congress.

Smithsonian Institute

The world's largest museum and research complex that operates many museums, galleries and exhibits including the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the American History Museum, the National Zoo, and many others. And it's all free!

National Mall

One of the busiest locations in DC, this open green space serves to honor and celebrate the committment to democracy. It is home to historic monuments and buildings such as the U.S. Capital Building, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, MLK Jr. National Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the World War II Memorial.

National Archives Museum

A display of historically significant and patriotic documents including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
